Wildcats Capture National Football Championship

Villanova's Wildcats football team claimed the 2009 national title in the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA), topping undefeated Montana 23-21! This impressive victory marked the first national championship for the Villanova football team and the 18th overall in the university's athletics history. The Wildcats capped off their remarkable season with an unprecedented 14-1 (.933) record. The team also broke its own records for rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, total offensive yards and most extra points in a single season.

With 22 NCAA Division I athletic teams, including powerhouse basketball and football programs that have each captured national championships, Villanova gives its students and supporters plenty to cheer about. In addition to the Wildcats' success in sports such as basketball, football, baseball and soccer, at least one Villanova athlete has competed in every Summer Olympics since 1948, winning a total of 13 medals. Click here for the latest news about the Wildcats.
