The Top Six Sigma Careers on the Rise Are Your Own
Many companies look to hire/train their Six Sigma staff from the inside. This ensures that the employee is using their company’s current business model while training. It’s much easier for someone from the inside to go ahead and implement Six Sigma practices, as opposed to the learning curve that lies ahead for someone from the outside. To define the most desirable work environment for Six Sigma professionals, iSixSigma performed a survey for Six Sigma employees who worked for nominated organizations in its 2008 iSixsigma’s Best Places to Work™. The commonality between all the survey responses from employees of these top organizations involved leadership support, training programs and career development opportunities. Three survey responses that stuck out the most were:

With Credentials Including Six Sigma, Careers Can Be Redefined
The economy’s decline in recent years has made this methodology even more crucial for companies to stay profitable. You may be wondering how Six Sigma can redefine someone’s career. It’s simple – companies that do not have the time to wait for someone from the inside to train, will hire consultants or bring a Six Sigma certified professional in on a full-time basis. This may seem contradictory to what was stated in the opening of the article, but it’s quite simple – for some organizations, time is of the essence and they cannot afford to wait for an interior employee to complete their Six Sigma training. The Economy Does Not Seem to Be an Obstacle for Six Sigma Careers
It appears there will be no shortage of jobs, according to an iSixSigma Global Salary Survey, Six Sigma trained professionals will continue to be in high demand through 2010 with Six Sigma salaries earning an average of $104,083. Also noteworthy, job aggregating website Indeed.com shows that the average Six Sigma Black Belt salaries for job postings nationwide are 47% higher than average salaries for all other job postings nationwide.
Top 10 Places to Work and Cultivate Six Sigma Careers
In its second year, the iSixSigma Best Places to Work™ poll was conducted. Both iSixSigma.com and iSixSigma Magazine sponsored the list, which received more than 40 applicant companies from all over the world. Each company applying for consideration has to fill out a two-part survey online – senior Six Sigma leadership submitted answers to an employee survey, and full-time Six Sigma personnel have to submit answers to an employee survey.
The rankings process was simple, the scores from both surveys were totaled and the companies were ranked 1 through 10 as a result. The survey scores were weighted, the greatest consideration was given to the employee survey, which had five categories ranging from: job satisfaction to compensation. Job satisfaction was the category in the employee survey that was given the most weight, because that is what employees said was the most important factor to them when it comes to where they work.
The winning companies for fostering Six Sigma careers“demonstrated an even higher commitment to fostering a supportive culture for Six Sigma professionals to thrive. Overall scores this year were higher than last in each category,” said Michael Marx, research manager of iSixSigma.com and iSixSigma Magazine.
