If you hold a bachelor’s degree and have relevant work experience, you can apply to a Villanova University’s online master’s program today! Applicants do not need to provide GRE or GMAT scores for admissions consideration.

Villanova’s Graduate Admissions Requirements


To be considered for acceptance into Villanova’s online graduate degree program, you must have:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college
  • A minimum 3.0 undergraduate grade point average (GPA)
  • A minimum of 3 years relevant work experience

Applicants must submit the following:

  • A completed application form(call 1-866-220-0017 to request an application)
  • A one-time, non-refundable $85 application fee
  • Signed authorization for University Alliance to obtain official transcripts for all colleges and universities attended
  • Three letters of recommendation, preferably from professionals in the applicant’s proposed field of study
  • A résumé or curriculum vitae detailing the applicant’s employment history, job responsibilities and professional accomplishments
  • An essay describing the applicant’s relevant work experience and ultimate career goals
    • MPA candidates – Two pages
    • MS in HRD candidates – 500 words

Applicants who graduated from a non-U.S. institution of higher education may be required to provide additional documentation.

  • Applicants who are not U.S. citizens must submit an official copy of their TOEFL results with a minimum score of 550 on the paper-based test or 80 on the Internet-based test. Exceptions: Applicants who earned their undergraduate degree from an accredited U.S. institution of higher education do not have to provide TOEFL results. Applicants from English-speaking countries and native English-speakers living abroad may also request a TOEFL exemption.
  • Applicants who earned their degree from a non-U.S. institution of higher education must submit an official credential evaluation of all degree-bearing transcripts, completed by an accredited credential evaluation agency. (Refer to www.NACES.org for a complete list of approved agencies.) The credential evaluation must be obtained and paid for by the applicant.

Optional for MS in HRD candidates: Applicants who hold certification as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR®), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR®), or Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR®), should submit a copy of their certificate.

Quick Apply


Applicants who wish to begin their education immediately can do so using Villanova’s Quick Apply process. Students who apply using Quick Apply may take up to two courses in one term under non-matriculated status (see below). Please note that you will not be eligible to receive federal financial aid until you have been formally accepted to the university; so if you are planning to apply for financial aid, you should follow the traditional full application process outlined above.

MPA Admission Types


Students may be admitted into Villanova’s online master’s degree program under one of the following admission types:

  • Matriculated: The applicant has provided all documents, and the applicant has a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 and at least 3 years of relevant work experience. These students are eligible for financial aid.
  • Non-Matriculated: The applicant has a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 and at least 3 years of relevant work experience. The applicant has an incomplete application, but has provided the following documentation: application, application fee, copy of their undergraduate bachelor’s degree-bearing transcript (official or unofficial, web based copies are acceptable) and resume. Students with a foreign bachelor’s degree must also submit an Official Credential Evaluation and Official degree-bearing transcripts. They are admitted for a maximum of two courses; must earn a minimum GPA of 3.0 in these two courses, submit all missing application materials, and be formally admitted as matriculated to continue taking courses. These students are not eligible for financial aid until they are matriculated.
  • Conditional Non-Matriculated: The applicant has at least 3 years of relevant work experience, and also significant relevant work experience in leadership positions, BUT an undergraduate GPA BELOW the minimum of 3.0. The applicant has submitted at least the following documentation: application, application fee, copy of their undergraduate bachelor’s degree-bearing transcript (official or unofficial, web based copies are acceptable) and resume. Students with a foreign bachelor’s degree must also submit an Official Credential Evaluation and Official degree bearing transcripts. Admitted for a maximum of two courses. They must submit all missing application materials if they have an incomplete application, and earn a cumulative GPA in the first two courses of at least 3.0 to be considered as a matriculated student and able to continue taking courses. These students are not eligible for financial aid until they are matriculated.

MS HRD Admission Types


Students may be admitted into Villanova’s online master’s degree program under one of the following admission types:

  • Matriculated Status: The applicant has provided all documents and meet all the admissions criteria: a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 and at least 3 years of relevant work experience. Matriculated students are eligible for financial aid and transfer credit.
  • Non-Matriculated Status: The applicant has a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 and at least 3 years of relevant work experience.  The applicant has not submitted all required application documents, but has provided at least the following documentation:  application, application fee, copy of their undergraduate bachelor’s degree-bearing transcript (official or unofficial, web based copies are acceptable) and resume.  Students with a foreign bachelor’s degree must also submit an Official Credential Evaluation and Official degree-bearing transcripts.  Applicants admitted with non-matriculated status may take a maximum of two courses.  They must earn a cumulative GPA of 3.0 in these two courses, submit all missing application materials, and be formally admitted as matriculated to continue taking courses.  These students are not eligible for financial aid until they are matriculated, and are not eligible for transfer credit.  
  • Conditional Non-Matriculated Status: Applicants who do not meet the minimum 3.0 undergraduate GPA requirement may be considered for conditional admission if they show promise for academic success based on their professional experience or other qualifications. The applicant must have at least 3 years of relevant work experience, preferably in a significant relevant leadership position. Their application may be complete or incomplete, but the applicant must have submitted at least the following documentation: application, application fee, copy of their undergraduate bachelor’s degree-bearing transcript (official or unofficial, web based copies are acceptable) and resume. Those who hold PHR® or SPHR® certification should submit a copy of their certificate, as certification is one of several factors that will be considered during the application review. Students with a foreign bachelor’s degree must also submit an Official Credential Evaluation and Official degree bearing transcripts.  Applicants admitted with conditional non-matriculated status may take a maximum of two courses.  They must earn a cumulative GPA of 3.0 in these two courses, submit all missing application materials, and be formally admitted as matriculated to continue taking courses.  These students are not eligible for financial aid until they are matriculated, and are not eligible for transfer credit.
