CAP Certification
The International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium, Inc., - generally referred to as (ISC)²® - is now offering CAP® certification. CAP® (Certified Authorization Professional) is a relatively new credential that is highly sought after by all levels of government, as well as by private sector employers and contractors. The certification is designed to give vital new skills and tools to authorization officials, information owners, system owners, information system security officers and certifiers, senior system managers and other professionals.
According to the (ISC)²® web site:
"The Certified Authorization Professional (CAP®) credential is an objective measure of the knowledge, skills and abilities required for personnel involved in the process of certifying and accrediting security of information systems. Specifically, this credential applies to those responsible for formalizing processes used to assess risk and establish security requirements. Their decisions will ensure that information systems possess security commensurate with the level of exposure to potential risk, as well as damage to assets or individuals."
Why Would I Want CAP® Certification?
If you work for the federal government, or even aspire to, you may be subject to the Federal Information Security Management Act of 2002 (FISMA). This requires all federal systems to be certified and accredited prior to operation, and at least every three years thereafter. CAP® certification satisfies FISMA requirements, making it an important credential to pursue. It is also in demand by many local, county and state government bodies. Adding this certificate to your resume can enable you to enjoy greater responsibility, recognition and advancement opportunities.
